Youth&Government
Youth & Govt. is now in its 64th year,"...the Model Legislature/Court (MLC) offers a hands-on United Nations experience for grades 9-12. " It's an amazing program that allows students to learn about the government by making them apart of the government. We spend the beginning of the year getting into small groups and coming up with bill ideas. After each delegation has come up with a certain amount of solid bills, we present them to a panel whose job is to choose one bill for the delegation to expand their research on.
We also have 3 trips that come up in November, January, and February. The trips in November and January are referred to as Bob 1 and Bob 2 (Bob is a shortened version of Camp Roberts). Here, students from delegations all over California come and attend daily sessions that help them get a better understanding of our government (especially in California) and get to participate in debates, clubs, and delegation meetings.
During Bob 2, students choose from a list of jobs they're interested in and go further in depth with a random group of students who share the same interests. Finally, during February, students take a 5-day trip to Sacramento where we stay in hotels with 2,500 other high school delegates and proffessionaly present their bills, ideas, and speeches to eachother. Overall, the whole Y&G experience is one that you will never forget, it's fun, educational, and will look great on your college application.
