BOB 1 11/30/2011
Location: Camp Roberts Hours: 31 So this past weekend was the weekend of BOB 1 which is a fancy name for Camp Roberts. Camp Roberts is a military base in Paso Robles, CA. BOB 1 is where delegates from the YMCA's all over California come together and attend sessions, create bonds, and vote for running cadidates. The reason it's all the way up in Camp Roberts is because that is the only location that can fit 2,500 high school students (and the food is cheap). This year at BOB 1, the weather was cold, muddy, and rainy. Nonetheless, it was a great experience. Our days were filled with back-to-back sessions and joint sessions (which involved all 2,500 students),listening to speeches, voting for candidates etc. My favorite session was the one about public speaking. The intructor discussed how to write and present and effective speech. He told us never to read off of the paper and to always give eye contact. He also said that people tend to stare at your cards when you speak, so if you move your hands up and down, you can see their eyes following your note cards haha. One thing I learned was to never cry when you're presenting, it will take away fron your presentation. You must appear very confident, you can't slouch and you must make sur eyour voice is at it's regular tone, you don't want to scare your audience by yelling. By going to BOB 1, we learn to effectively write our bills as well as about the different roles that make up our states government. Add Comment |
